I spend all day on this, still cant solve.

Basically, I am reinstalling laptop Toshiba Satellite P200-140 with new, fresh Windows 7 OS. (was windows Vista home premium before, recovery deleted) .

Spend all day on it, but no luck.

    even hard to explain.

When installing windows 7 or Vista (tried both number times), clean install, hard drive formatted, new partition, all ok, than windows count all that what he needs, at the end, when last procedure finishing up, it restarts (before ask enter name, etc) and screen goes absolutely blank, no moves on hard drive, ... just difference on vista is, screen , when got stuck everything, have some few stuck dots/lines... like frozen tv with no signal. (picture attached) .

when restarting (power button press) , it shows, applying settings, than error message aka "reinstall os" , when troubleshooting problems, it shows - core problem, error while installing OS. (tried different dvds, even from well known good working, before used dvd) , hard drive changed also, .. samo.. :(

When was googling , appears that problem with video drivers..., could it be video drivers ?

Haven't seen such a joke, and never was expecting on toshiba laptop.
I managed install windows 7 on my old dell desktop, which is over 8 year old. ... but that ....

    Thanks

Some more info for headaches : sorry, forgot put in... installed win xp pro, no problems, but problems starts, when instal new drivers, same blank screen, but in that case, i can roll back in safe mode .

To me it sounds like a hard drive problem, I could be wrong as I'd have to see what's happening when you install.

i was thinking about that also, but unfortunately, i have changed hard drive, and symptoms are same :( not related to hard drive at all. all go blank, when new drivers installed.

If XP, Vista and W7 are all having the same problem with the video it suggests to me you've a hardware problem with the graphics chip on the laptop. That said if the old drivers work why not just stick with them?

there is some issue with win vista and 7, they update all drivers, including video automatically,...( couldnt find how to switch off driver update in installation process... it seems to be need do some changes in installation files before burn on dvd), which cause blank screen, but winXP do not update drivers itself, so i left laptop win xp and basic video drivers, still can surf in internet, watch movies and listen music... what else needed :D

gave back to owner, with explanation, he need save money for new laptop(after i collected my fee :pac: ), until this one dies, and that will happen soon :D

Doesn't make sense that laptop has a run of the mill GMA 950 chipset. W7 can't update the drivers it has on the DVD, where would it update them from? The web? You can turn that off for that device.

wouldnt it update drivers, when finalizing install ? mostly, when installing win7 on systems, most of drivers are up to date .... how it was updated ? certainly not from web. so w7 has bunch of universal drivers, for different chipsets, i assume that it updated driver on this particular system, with its own universal driver.

By the way. I emailed to Toshiba technical support, with all possible information and picture, their answer was - hardware issue. that video card is gone, .. not sure if heating / re-balling would help, probably chipset itself is just gone... laptop was on 24h/7d X 4 years, so probably "worn out " . :pac:

Hard to know. Could be hardware or driver. Just W7 usually works out of the box. If nothing else you'd be able to get to a generic VGA driver I'd assume like you do in safe mode.

yea, seems to be , w7 have driver for that video card, if it wouldnt have, it would be in basic VGA mode. wouldnt have an issue, wonder, how that vista was working before....

Factory install with correct (Tosh modified Intel) Driver for the VGA, not some Generic driver that comes on Vista/W7 installation disc

i think you are right, i had same thoughts. but any way, it shouldn't be go blank, when newer driver installed. anyway there is hardware problem . even if i could get original recovery disc , in next system / windows update it would get newer drivers, and it would go blank.
