Not a chance. It's called fraud. That's what the college grant system is for.

In order to get BTEA, you must have been in receipt of a Jobseeker's payment for the past 9 months. This is to stop half the country quitting work to go onto the scheme.

However she can keep her dole and do a part time course. And there is no waiting period.

No. She'll have to get a part-time job at the weekends.

She may be eligible for a grant as a mature student. Check out the citizens info page on grants for mature students:

Not necessarily. If she's quitting work she may not be entitled to the dole.

She should look into student grants.

A Grant is the only option for her. Closing date 31 August.

Yes she is excluded for a few weeks if she declares that she left voluntarily. But she will still get it eventually.

She cannot claim Jobseekers while she is registered in college because she is not available and actively seeking full time employment. If she does it will be classed as fraud and she will be penalized and have to repay the money she claimed as well as a criminal record. She maybe be entitled to a Higher Education Grant depending on her earnings for the year 2011 and can sign on available for work during the summer months if she is an independent mature student.

She is perfectly entitled to claim and go to college if she is doing a part-time course. It called the Part-time Option under the Back to Education Allowance. However she must already be claiming before she goes to college. And must apply using the BTEA Form. Detail on Department of Social protection website:

I took it from the OP post that she is returning to college full time as she has given up her job.. if she was to study part-time she could have remained in employment.

Well money seems to be an issue. So it's just an option open to her.
