Maybe this is a stupid question - but how can I tell if a car has just been serviced or not?
In other words, if a dealer offers to service a car as a part of a sale how do I know if he even bothers his hole to do it?

The air filter should be very clean.

Depends on whether the car is petrol or diesel, but in a petrol i'd expect the oil to be golden and relatively clean looking.

Not so sure how you would know if the oil filter was changed...

Check the air filter is new, if its possible to see the oil filter, see is it new(if its a metal screw on type).

Other then that, keep in mind that the more work they do on the car for you, the less profit they make. So really, anyone interested in proper maintenance would be budgeting for a service with their own trusted mechanic after buying the car.
