Mini bus to van/camper tax ?

    Hi Folks this is my 1st post, been offered a minibus for handy money. I want to convert it a 2 berth camper/race motorhome for motorbikes. layout will be a 2 bike garage at back with double bed over garage. Now whats the story with taxing it, will have no seats so will no longer be a minibus, can i just tax it as a van ? thanks any help appreciated.

    you can only tax it as a van if you are using it for exclusively commercial purposes. To tax as a camper, you need a minimum headroom behind the drivers seat, dont know the eaxct figure, but you need to be able to stand, so it will be 6 feet or maybe two metres no doubt.

    There is no headroom requirement anymore. It used to be 1.8 m. Also as your van is a bus, VRT was paid when first registered you should be able to re-register it relatively cheaply as VRT is only paid once per vehicle lifetime. If you were converting from a van it would be 13.3% of the open market selling price.

    Please move the thread to the campervan section, you'll probably get many more answers there regarding the other requirements (cooker, bed, etc).
