Got a leaflet through the letterbox this afternoon listing evening courses starting soon. There's an eight-week Car Maintenance course mentioned for €74, but no further details on what's covered. Has anyone done this before and can you tell me what's going to be covered?

We had a young lad in our place who did it....its basically a course on how to change a wheel, check your oil, change bulbs etc.

Ah no, I was looking for something a bit more worthwhile than that. At eight week duration, I was hoping for changing brake pads and some slightly more complicated jobs (for me).

One word why these courses do so little: INSURANCE!

Exactly, they can't 'teach' people how to change brake pads, for example, without covering a complete course on brake systems/theory/function/service/repair etc, otherwise they leave themselves open to legal issues from people working on their brakes with only partial knowledge etc.
