    Hey guys,

Been up at Ticknock twice now, love it !

Do many of you from this forum head up there? If so.... is there a best time to go? to see other riders and see there bikes. Any particular busy times?

    Cheers,

    Jordan.

i've been heading up quite a bit recently,
i've only taken up mtb'ing in the last 2/3 months

the busiest times seem to be during the week after work between 6 and 8 on a fine evening.
at least that's what i have seen recently,

it does not seem to be as busy at the weekend.

Sunny weekends, more in the morning hours but not crazy early (at 8am that place is deserted, except for the odd deer or bunny/rabbit/something).

Haven't been there in the afternoons much but I'd think that there would be also loads there if the weather is right.

The other thing is that while there are only two official trails a lot of the mtb'ers would go on the non-official trails (tons of them there) and while the car parks would be full to the brim you might only meet a few people on your way.

It's best to go there with a club or group of people that know all the trails where walkers wouldn't dare to walk and they would be only used by mtb'ers. Then again, there are also plenty of walkers on the official trails, so at peak times it wouldn't be wise to go full out on any of them.

Have a few hours to kill tomorrow so I'll head up, haven't been up in a few years since I took up the road cycling so haven't seen the new trails yet. Can't wait. Is it easy to find the start of the trails?

it's really easy to find the Coillte trails,
once you get to the top of the initial climb up the main roadway, to where the masts are, there is a trail on your immediate left at the viewing point

for the other Coillte trail you take a right at the top of the hill where the masts are (at the first cross roads), and then a left (at the second crossroads)

both are sign posted with red bike symbols, not that difficult to follow,

Similar question here, I'll be going up to Ticknock as soon as I get a helmet and was wondering the best time to go to avoid a high number of cyclists? Still new to MTB'ing so I don't want to hold up loads of other bikers. I'm guessing any time during the week before the afternoon would be fine?

I have been to ticknock about 10-12 times at various times of the day.
I have only ever come across people on the trails once.

The majority of the experienced MTB'ers don't go near the official Coillte trails, I wouldn't worry about holding people up.

In the off-chance that someone comes up behind you, you can easily step in out of the way.

Don't worry about holding up other bikers. I've never known it to feel particularly busy, even on a Saturday/Sunday afternoon.

That's good to hear, I'll be looking back to keep an eye out anyway I just didn't want to be holding up a train of people :D

Weekdays/afternoon's you can cycle up the lower track instead of down and you're not likely to meet anyone apart from random motorbikers! :D
