quick question, does every 4 hole alloy wheel fit every car with 4 holes and like wise with 5 holes, by holes i mean the holes you put the screws through.

i know they have to be a matching size ie 16 inch or 18 inch

    There's a clearer explanation with sizes here - http://www.raceandroad.com/technical-help/stud-pattern-pcd.html

    another alloy question.

if i have 16 inch tyres on standard steel wheels can i change them for a 17 inch alloy wheel and low profile tyres,

thinking of upgrading so asking a few questions, are halfords wheels and tyres any good?

Yes, once the rolling circumference stays the same and the tyres aren't any wider. This calculator will tell you the circumference of a tyre. It also explains a lot of tyre terms.

No, they weigh as much as a small house and generally come with terrible Chinese tyres. I've heard good things about east coast alloys but from what I can see they're still only selling reps. alloy-wheels.ie looks promising if you're looking for branded (read: decent) alloys, but I've not used them myself. I personally think OEM alloys always look the classiest, and are the best setup for your suspension geometry since the car was designed for them.
