Work history on application form

I am applying for a job that ideally I would love to get. It is the job I have wanted for a long time but havent been able to get or find thanks to the recession. But on the form it asks for work experience. I have experience but due to the recession I had to move from that field and take work where I could. Due to this my work history has drifted from my preferred trade.
Now on the form should I put down my experience in the right field which is a few years ago or put in my most recent employment which has nothing to do with the job I am applying for.

    Thanks

Give them both, then explain in your cover letter why you had to move between areas due to the climate we are currently in, no employer that is interested in good people will mark that against you if anything it'd be a plus to show your a worker

IMO, detailed experience of right field, skimmed experience of what you did since.

Thanks for the reply's. The form only gives 2 spaces for 'work experience'. And the fact that they ask for 'work experience' makes me think that I should put in relevant experience only. they do provide a section for why you have want and have chosen this career path so I might put in a bit about why I moved fields there.
