Computer freezes only while playing games?

    Hi there,
Would anyone know what is causing my computer to crash/freeze after playing games for about 30minutes? If I don't play a game, just browse the interent or use MS office the computer doesn't crash.

I upgraded Windows Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit. Same thing kept happening.

Then I replaced the graphics card. Still the same problem. :(

I'm at a loss what to do next?

Would it be anything to do with overheating in the case?

    Any ideas would be helpful.

    Cheers,

    Madmoss

Ya it does sound like overheating,

Games obviously push things a bit harder.

Seen as you replaced your graphics card I would guess that its your CPU overheating.

Check your case for dust, ensure cash fans are working and maybe re-seat your cpu cooler (cleaning off old thermal paste and putting new stuff on).

What happens if you switch it on as soon as it shuts down?
If it quickly shuts down again, then it's overheating.

    Hi guys,
    Thanks for the responses.

When i restart it seems to follow the same pattern, i.e. it'll be ok unless i play a game, if i play a game is crashes after a while. I haven't checked to see if it occurs faster the second time around, but i will now.

The case does have a lot of dust, so i'll give it and the area a whole clean out, and i'll re-seat the CPU with new thermal paste.

Cleaning the dust is always good anyway. before going at the cooler you could run a memtest too to see is it RAM causing the issue.

Is it every game or a specific one?

Easiest way to check if the PC is overheating about from downloading core temp and checking the actual temps of the cpu is to take the side of the case off, get an everyday normal fan and point it directly at the mobo as close as you can and game away. If it does not crash then you know its overheating. Make sure in the BIOS you have not got anything set to powerdown when reaching a certain temp aswell.

Was it always like this or just recently happen? Do you have it overclocked at all......
