Istanbul Kebab

So the Istanbul has closed down. I passed it last night in need of a Kebab, I have to say I was an emotional mess when I saw the doors closed. They might as well turn off the light in Aras an Uachtarain. I dont know if there is anything left in this country for me any more.

Whhhaaaaaattt? I rarely ate in there, but I would still be shocked if this is true! Surely they did decent business there? It always seemed jammers! My old flatmates from college who are all back in their native neighbouring counties will be devastated. They lived in the place a couple of years ago.

I said this about Mason's in another thread, and it applies here too... if the place is left empty I really hope it doesn't become a massive eyesore. :(

    Edit: just saw Kryogen's post.

    Sad Day.

Chicken meat and chips - Gone but never forgotten.:(

Mixed feelings here. Istanbul was the best of a number of bad and overpriced kebab shops. Using tiny cheap pita breads instead of proper flatbread makes the thing rather small and messy and €6.50 is a bit of a joke too. I guess the rent aint cheap on that corner. At least they had actual lamb in it.
Gonna miss it but hoping something better comes in.

Just before the students come back? Makes no sense at all.

Might be more to this story. Another place closed down because the owner was a chronic gambler and owed a lot of money.

    Same nationality.

They didn't sell kebabs they sold some sort of crusty bread with chicken inside it - as a matter of interest does anyone know where I can get a proper kebab in Waterford.

The Bacchanalian district is dying a death.
A sad day for all sauce hounds (and indeed local dry cleaners).

Jesus it's like Oriental Garden all over again. My sister will be crushed. If Geoffs ever closes she might just off herself because she'll have nothing left.

Maybe it's a little too strong a word... But they did great food and had a very fast service. I would have appreciated more if I knew it was going to be my last

Never mind Istanbul - try the kebabs across the road in Pizza Palace. They're huge, made with proper lamb in fresh flatbread. Mmmmmmm......

It's where Aaron's used to be. Across the road from The Front Lounge. Never understood why people rate Istanbul so highly, the kebabs are mystery meat at best! Try Zaytoon in Dublin some time, that's a real kebab! You even feel good eating it sober! If Zaytoon ever opened here I'd gain about 2 stone :D

The instanbul kebabs were garbage the only reason people liked them is because they were polluted at 2 in the morning eating them!

The best Kebabs in town are opposite Garter lane theatre, can't think of the name but good food that you don't have to be rat arsed to eat.

I'm salivating about the thought of a Zaytoon. For anyone who hasn't had one, make it your business to get one next time you're up in Dublin.

Tip: Ask for it to go. They'll wrap it up really neat and tidy, otherwise you're messing around with it yourself.

    Zaytoon me hole

Iskanders on Dame St is where its at!

Glad that Istanbul is reopening all the same
