Hi, I'm looking to purchase some DVD+Rs and after numerous searches am totally baffled as to what I should be looking out for - Taiyo Yudens or Verbatim or JVC.

I need the discs for burning video files and ISOs on a laptop. I recall using Verbatim a number of years ago usually trouble free but the most recent discussion threads have mentioned their quality has waned.

Can anyone enlighten me please as to what I should be looking at buying and where (preferably in Dublin as opposed to online) I can buy the best DVD+Rs?

Quality of blank media in general has gone down. But unless you've got a time machine there's nothing you can do about that.

Taiyo Yuden are still the most reliable/consistent media compared to their competitors.

And Verbatim are still one of the higher quality brands that are readily available in shops over here.

Laptop DVD drives usually suck anyways doesn't matter if using Tayios or CMC Mags in those drives sometimes. I would go with Verbs (found Tayios vastly overrated in the past), make sure the DVD drive firmware is up to date and burn at half the discs rated speed (16x->8x, 8x->4x etc can improve quality, not always so play around with it). The issues you probably read about with Verbs are that some of them recently were outsourced to factories which do not make that great media, and yet Verbatim refused to differenciate. I had problems with Tayio sometimes bad burns and the price for them was extrordinate (100 cost €60+ a while back!). If you can pick up JVC media for a more reasonable price then I would consider it.

    Nick
