theirs a thing called the unofficial world football championship where they trace the results back to the first international and looked at who beat who basically its like a boxing system with a champion and challenger thiers a thing in new zealand called the ranfurly shield where its based on a champion challanger system

now i was interested in would be the current champions at football and hurling using this im assuming becuase the all ireland is a knockout tournement the winners of the ireland each season would then also be lineal champions

but we must take league results into account aswell and maybe even regional matches like the dr mckenna cup obvously not counting matches against colleges

it will be cool to see a history of these mythical championships to see how many a county has won defended titles and see if any unlikley counties have held the championships

lets called this the unofficial all ireland football championship lets look at 2012 results so far so dublin have the title from being last years all ireland champions im just going to count league results for this example dublins first defence of the title was agianst kerry at croke park on 4th February which kerry won so here ill post a history of this years unoffical all ireland football championship so far
    Round 1 4 February 2012 Dublin 0-11 — 1-14 Kerry Croke Park, Dublin

    Round 2 11 February 2012 Kerry 0-10 — 2-08 Armagh Austin Stack Park, Tralee

    Round 3 3 March 2012 Armagh 0-11 — 1-14 Mayo Athletic Grounds, Armagh

    Round 4 11 March 2012 Mayo 0-11 — 1-13 Down McHale Park, Castlebar
    Round 5 18 March 2012 Down 0-15 — 1-10 Dublin Páirc Esler, Newry

    Round 6 24 March 2012 Armagh 1-14 — 0-16 Down Athletic Grounds, Armagh

    Round 7 8 April 2012 Donegal 0-13 — 0-10 Armagh Ballybofey

so after the league campaign we can see donegal hold the championship but didnt qualify for league playoffs so the league playoffs would not decide the league champion and UAIFC

    20 May 2012
    3:30pm
Preliminary Round Cavan 1-10 - 1-16 Donegal Breffni Park, Cavan
    Attendance: 12,847
    Referee: C Reilly (Meath)

    16 June 2012
    5:00pm
Quarter Final Donegal 2-13 - 0-9 Derry MacCumhail Park, Ballybofey
    Attendance: 11,207

    30 June 2012
    4:30pm
Semi Final Tyrone 0-10 - 0-12 Donegal St. Tiernach's Park, Clones

    22 July 2012
    2:00pm
Final Down 0-13 - 2-18 Donegal St Tiernach's Park, Clones

    5 August 2012
    16:00
    Quarter-final Donegal 1-12 - 1-10 Kerry Croke Park, Dublin

    6 August 2012
    15:30
    Semi-final Cork 1-11 - 0-16 Donegal Croke Park, Dublin
    Attendance: 55,169

so as we can see donegal are the current title holders up to now and becuase the all ireland is a knockout it means the all ireland final will also always be a championship match unless thiers a change of format so for donegal to retain thier title they must win the all ireland championship

i quickly went through the hurling title and no suprise kilkenny currently hold it but did lose to dublin in the league who lost it to waterford then tippearay won it and the kilkenny regain can galway pull of an upset and hold the championship through out the winter

Nice work in doing that up, but I think you've to redo the hurling one.

Kilkenny beat Dublin by a point in the league with 2 late goals. It's Cork they lost to, but presumably regained it by beating them in the final, then lost it to Galway in the Leinster final.
