Stolen Bike

    Hello,

I had my bike stolen last night / this morning. I don't have insurance so probably have zero chance of getting anything back, but I just wondered if anyone had any experience of the Guards doing much to try to locate stolen bikes (albeit I realise there isnt much that can be done)?

It was locked in the bike railings in the underground car park of my apartment building. I was down there last night to take the back tube off. I walked past earlier today and it was gone - the lock was still there, it had been smashed off.

We have cctv and the bike couldnt be cycled, so Im hoping the f*cker will stand out on the video. Im just wondering if the Garda actually go to any great lengths to look into these things, from peoples experience?

Someone called out but Im sure it probably isnt high on their list of priorities. I wouldnt be filled with confidence by the questions asked, but could be wrong.

I got it on the bike to work scheme, so still have another three payments to go to make things worse. If anyone wants to buy a newly repaired inner tube and pump, PM me :(

Did you give them the serial number for the bike?

Post what type of bike it is and the specs etc and maybe someone here will spot it out and report it!

Theres a thread aswel for stolen bikes, post the info in there.

Sorry to hear that OP. Have a search on Gumtree, Adverts, Done deal, etc. just in case it pops up for sale. Pop a photo and description up here too - I'm sure people will keep an eye out

At least you reported it. Every bike theft should be reported, even if the bike is worth a tenner.
At least if bike thefts get embarrassingly high, something might be done.

Something you could try on all the sites is posting a reward for its return to you, no questions asked. Give the details of where it was taken from and when. You would have to offer a large reward and whether or not you'd actually plan to pay it should someone turn up would be up to you. Depends what the bike is worth and whether you can spend more money. Also maybe if someone turned up meet them in a public place, don't want to be bringing criminals to the house or anything! It's a long shot but can work.

While a thread like this to discuss what you can do to try and recover stolen bikes is fine, if you want to post up details of the bike in question, do it here

    Thanks

They didnt ask for it, just took very basic details and when I tried to add more (e.g.no tube on back tyre so visible in cctv) she just cut across me. I called kilmainham, they decided my address was in the bridewell district (its not) so sent someone from therd. The garda that arrived said Kilmainham would have to look into it so she would pass on the details.

Geez, that's pathetic that they weren't even interested in the serial number.
