Very tempting, but my god those three hills in a row are bringing back memories of the Evil 200(ish) again! I think the first is the worst of them all before you even get near SM! Hopefully might be able to enter

But on a plus note, you will not have been over the Sally Gap or travelled as far when you hit them :D;)

Heading to this myself, any other boardsies? It's for a great cause and the cakes are top notch!

Probably do this one since it's local, but probably stick to the medium distance since I'm doing the Leisure Loop the day before...

Yep, the Macreddin / Aughrim road to Slieve mann is an evil rampy little yoke and no mistake. Might try to get down for this myself, though looking at the course, my range of speeds will be varying between dead slow and stop.

Does this roll-out as a group start or does everybody just start as/when they like? If it's a group start what time does it leave at?

Might be up for this. Probably decide later in the week. Will be cycling out from the city centre. Anyone else fancy lumping on an extra 45ish km to this?

The weather is looking good for most of Sunday, the routes are marked and there MAY even be cake!!!...........and I know cake can be a deal maker :)

Went out to check on the route today. We had coffee sitting outside the Glenmalure Lodge and the weather was lovely. Should be good for Sunday too.

If the weather's gonna be good then I'm out of excuses not to do this! :) Assuming I'm there I'll be the one gasping up the hills - will try to start early so I at least get to see people passing me! Always worth it for the good Bray food! The flapjacks at the end a couple of years ago were fantastic!

Thanks, xz. I'm going to do this. Is there anywhere to download the forms and have them filled in to save a bit of time at the start? I'll need both the entry and the insurance?

You'll have to do all that on the day I'm afraid, will take all of 2 minutes, its basically a sign on sheet

First off what a fantastic day on the bike. Weather was nothing to write home about and the road surface often seemed more fit for cyclo-cross rather than road bikes but between the people, climbs and food i'm hard pushed to think of a better time i've had on the bike

    Thanks Bray Wheelers

Many thanks to everyone who took part in the Joe Loughman Randonnee today from everyone at Bray Wheelers CC and Bray Cancer Support Centre.
Your support was very much appreciated.
Thanks to all the people who volunteered to ensure the day went smoothly.
All proceeds from the day will go to provide free services to people affected by cancer.

A pair of Oakley Jawbones was handed in after the event. Contact Bray Cancer Support Centre at 01-2866966 to claim the glasses.

Great day alright (apart from my ill-fated decision to try to stick with a couple of the host club's mountain goats). Thanks to all that worked hard to put it together and thanks to the Bray lads for letting me tag along with them.

Really enjoyed the event yesterday although I'm not at all as fit as I was last year! Headed off from club early around 08:40 looking forward to latching on to passing groups for a while. Tough going into the headwind early in the day then a bloody puncture (first this year) around the Charlesland exit on N11 - never had one along that stretch but knew it'd come sooner or later. Fixed it surprisingly quick for me despite nearly stabbing my finger when checking the tyre only to find a very sharp coiled bit of wire. Frustratingly two groups flew by while I was there. As I was tidying up a third group passed so I pegged it (nearly killed me as I didn't catch til beyond the long hill after Newtownmountkennedy exit) and caught up. Stayed with different people from that group until Slieve Mann when I died a death! Makes such a difference being in a group on windy days like that!

Food was smashing as expected at the halfway point - oodles of it and a great selection. They also put a car at top of Shay Elliott on way back again, although it wasn't very obvious, and anyway at that stage I just wanted to keep going! Had some great chats with different people along the way including one boardsie (Jiffybag or something?) and another I think is a boardsie (borrowed bike). Talking to people actually made Mount Brown not as bad as I thought it'd be, although the steep ramp bit before that nearly killed me!

Unfortunately I realised how unfit I was while tackling Slieve Mann then Shay Elliot. I just stared at the Garmin and counted calories because that was the only figure that was changing at a decent rate! :pac: The misty rain on/off was great for not being covered with flies going up the hills, but it did make me a bit wary on the descents!

Laragh to Kilmac was grand thankfully with the wind behind. I sucked the wheel of a few passers by as long as I could before they flew off up the road! Toughest headwind of the day was the turn from the Boghall Road back up to BW cycling club - had it been like that from Laragh I'd still be on the saddle now!

Overall a great day anyway! If I could add one small criticism there was a lack of marshalls anywhere (that I saw). Thankfully I knew the turns were coming up, but the left turn at the crossroads on far side of SE and then the left turn t-junction on the way back are really dodgy spots if you're not used to those descents. That said, I didn't hear of any crashes so hopefully all made it home ok!

    Overall 111.4km, 4:43, 23.6km/h, 1,886m of climbing

Big thanks to Bray Wheelers for a excellent day out yesterday. Tough route and serious amount of food both at food stop and clubhouse.

Left clubhouse around 8.45 and went a steady pace down to Ashford, probably 10 or so in the group. The long drag towards Laragh split the group up and there was four us left, Joe (Nico Roche twin bro), Garret and fella from Ashbourne who burned his son on the climb out of Ashford.

Steady climb up Shay Elliot, quick decent, stopped from some grub which was top class. The remaining route was the climb of Mt Brown, Slieve Mann and Shay Elliot, tough as no real flat sections, up and down for 30 odd km.

Guy from Sorrento CC caught me on the Shay Elliot and paced me up at a 11.5 km p/h, though it felt damn quicker, from there home tagged along with a group from Bray Wheelers, stayed with them for 10/12 km and was burned 2 km from sugar loaf, quick decent home and rest.

    4hr 22 mins, avg 25.5km, 111.5km
