Grant, fees?

    Hello all,

I'm going into second year and I've applied for the grant. I don't think it will be approved until October (if I do get it) and the fees are due in September. I was wondering if anybody knows if I have to pay the fees and then I'll be reimbursed if I get the grant or if I am supposed to wait until I get the grant and then they will be paid for by SUSI. Anybody know? I rang the student desk but there was no answer. I e-mailed but no reply yet.

Did you put in your SUSI application number into the box on the Personal Details part of your registration? Do that for a start, that way they know you're waiting on the grant. You should be able to buy yourself some time if you tell them you are waiting on SUSI. Either way, fees don't have to be paid till the 9th, where they would expect half the payment.

Thanks for the reply Maldesu. I did put in my SUSI number in the 'Your Details' section so they know that I'm waiting on the grant. I'm just unsure about whether I need to pay the fees on the 9th and then I'll be reimbursed if I get the grant or what the situation is.

Most I've paid is the student levy. Won't pay any more till I know if SUSI is paying or not. I'll only worry coming up to exams because of this:

    Taken from UCD fees section
    Undergraduates:

Continuing undergraduate students whose outstanding debt exceeds the maximum allowed under the undergraduate debt carry-over facility, currently €600, will not be advanced to the next stage of their programme.
Access to exam results will be blocked.
Access to transcripts etc. will be blocked (with the exception of the certificate of attendance)
Where undergraduate's outstanding balance is at or below the threshold set by the debt carry-over facility, currently €600, none of the above applies.
Final year students will not be permitted to graduate until all fees and charges, including fines, have been paid.

Some colleges give some leeway of about a month but if they insist on getting the redg fee paid you will have no choice but to pay and you will be reimbursed by Susi. (not sure how long it will take them to pay you)

    From UCD website re: SUSI
Please note that there is no need to contact UCD about your grant, as SUSI will tell us about your application if it is successful. The latest information from SUSI is that, UCD will be informed of the first batch of successfully awarded grant students towards the end of September. This will then allow UCD to confirm registration of these students back to SUSI and update the fees account for successfully awarded students.
