I've never heard of anybody doing this. As far as I have gathered, they have a certain time-frame within which the lecturers correct the papers and then they hold a board to discuss them. So, I think it's not even finalised long before release date - it's a tight enough schedule. You could always ask but I'd say it's a long shot unless it's very urgent. . . .

You could try contact individual lecturers who might tell you if you passed or not, but it's up to them and still unofficial until after the board meetings.

What exactly are the board meetings for? to discuss individual ppl or is it to decided if the marking scheme needs to be changed for a paper depending on the fail/pass rate?

I had a repeat last year and I got onto the science office to see if I could get the results earlier. The release date last year was the Wednesday after we went back. They told me to call to the office on the Monday morning and they'd give me my results. There was also others there waiting to get theirs so maybe get onto the office and ask!

Urgh so you had to go into the office and they'd just tell you there?

I chanced my arm and emailed individual lecturers asking them if they could possibly tell me if I passed or failed some deferred exams I sat. A couple of them had no problem disclosing it, so that might be an idea. We've a small department though and everyone knows everyone - lecturers who mightnt know the students maybe wouldn't be so sound!

For someone who's borderline fail, they'll discuss whether to try to squeeze in a few more marks to get them to pass, depending on previous results and/or attendance. I think they also go through each exam in general and determine whether they need to change content for the next year or teach it a different way.

Okay, thanks for the info! Did nothing for maths the first time around! Definitely had a huge improvement this time, think i was definitely around a pass anyways so at least I know they're trying to pass ppl! :P

What is the logic behind passing students based on their attendance? If you've gone to all your lectures and tutorials and done all your assignments and you're still not managing to get >40% it's quite obvious you aren't very good at that subject.

I wasn't sure on what date the repeats were coming out so i sent an e-mail to one of my lecturers who is also the course coordinator a few days ago. He replied and said that it would be next week .But then he sort of insinuated that I passed it.

If I don't can I hold the email against them?

    I J/K .. :P

I emailed my lecturers and one of them told me how I got on in the repeats for their modules, I got an out-of-office reply from the other one saying they're not back til next week. Do you think I could find out from anyone else - head of faculty etc?

What's the official line on lectures this week for students waiting on repeats? Do they actually want you to go in?

Hi, I found out today I have failed a repeat exam, is it possible that thay would still let me into second year or will i have to repeat that 1 module. I really dont think it makes sense to stay in Galway for 4 hrs a week. I hope to meet with lecturer next week to discuss this, or is it first year for me again?????????????? If anyone has been in a similar situation please let mwe know what you think.
