Petrol in a diesel

Sorry to drag up this thread again.

After owning a diesel car for approximately 4 years I (finally) managed to misfuel it. Red light on, drove into a garage in a daze and started filling her up. Managed to put 25 litres of pertol before I realized my mistake. I was on hlidays away from home so I rang the lease company (company car), and we agreed that I had no option but to fill the remainder with diesel. So 50 litres of diesel gave me a 2:1 diesle/petrol mix. Was advised to keep the revs up, so I did this a drove the car until there was 1/4 tank used, and topped it up with diesel. When I got back home I got the garage to empty the tank and reoplace the fuel filter.

The car is going fine (I think), but I'm wondering if I have done any long term damage (something that might bite me in the a55 later). What do you think. The engine is a 2.0 TDi 140 bhp VAG unit.

Did the same in a focus diesel a few years back tdci model. Fired out a bit of smoke for a day or two but seemed to have recovered alright tg. Think you'll be okay if you topped up with diesel straight off and the car is not misfiring at this stage.

25L is a lot of petrol to put in a diesel car but if the car isn't stuttering or smoking now I'd wager it'll be fine. Keep topping up with diesel to dilute the petrol.
I'd also bring it for a long drive to use up the petrol as much as possible.

It'd be helpful if you could update us OP as you go, a lot of people ask about this but not many update after to say if it indeed was ok or if the car was damaged.

It'll be grand. I recently seen a clip of 2 test cars getting the wrong fuel from empty put into them. They were about 10 years old and both were driven with the wrong fuel for several minutes until they conked. The correct fuel was then put in (no fuel siphoned) and both cars recovered fine. In fact, the diesel had improved performance when hooked up to the computer for testing.

You had a 2:1 correct fuel ratio. I wouldn't be surprised if the petrol has done some cleaning up of carbon deposits thanks to it being cleaner and the higher revving.

I'd be worried about modern injection systems and misfuelling. You may well be fine but I'd imagine that you're lucky too.

Aye, I posted it a while back in another of these threads.
