He's gone off somewhere to learn to count.

If each team scores a point in turn until it gets to 0-5 each, he'll say something like "they're level for the 5th time". Since they started level at 0-0 each, it's actually the 6th time they're level. The small things annoy me!

he was doing the commentary on the radio yesterday....maybe he does the hurling on tv and football on the radio. I have nothing to back up these claims!!

Yeah he's doing the radio now. How Micheal O'Muircheartaigh is sorely missed. I actually think Brian Carthy is better on the radio than Canning. That wouldn't be hard though.

He'll probably be on the tv for the finals, even though Darragh Moloney is a much better commentator, especially for the football.

    Really ?

Marty is the best, and he knows it.

    1. Darragh Moloney
    2. Ger Canning
    3. ABMarty Morrissey

Moloney is head and shoulders the best commentator above the rest. Would love to see him commentate both finals. Ger Canning is a poor also ran. As for Marty, surely there's somebody better than this clown out there!

Hardly - he thought Denis Walsh was playing for Cork yesterday.

FYI, Denis Walsh hasn't played for Cork in over 20 years - maybe it was supposed to be a tactical masterstroke from Counihan.....

Thank you for getting a hearty chuckle out of me on a Monday afternoon!! Its funny cause its true!

Marty is just the pits - an embarrassment. Does anybody remember the first time we played England at Croker in rugby? We hammered them and after the game Morrissey interviewed a fairly sheepish looking Brian Ashton. The interview was so unbearably cringe-inducing I had to mute the sound until it was over. At one point Marty asked Brian, who was looking around for a huge hole in the ground to jump into 'what do you think of the stadium?'

Anybody but Marty. I'd sooner have Adolf Hitler do the commentary.

They're all so bad, it's almost funny.

If only we could of kept Mícheál O'Hehir alive forever.

    Hes ****.

Marty for the Hurling. Maloney for the Football. Canning for the P45.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

Darragh Maloney for both, and the soccer too. By far the best commentator RTE have. Marty is hard to listen to, and Canning just makes a crazy amount of mistakes every time.

I hate Marty. He is just so dam annoying.

It is saying something when you would rather Canning, who I think is horrendous also.

I like Marty. He's a bit of a laugh at least, he's got a bit of personality.

Canning is meh, he's awful doing any other sports than GAA, he's terrible on the radio but on tv he's okay bar the odd mistake.

Circumstances dictated that I listened to most of the recent Olympic boxing bouts on the radio. When Marty was on it was unbelievably sh1te commentary. In fairness to Jimmy Magee, he is nearly always spot when calling who won a round and who won a fight. Morrissey hadn't a clue. It would be as useful if they just had the sound of leather hitting flesh and you used your imagination to fill in the rest.

Darragh Maloney for me, by far and away the best of a bad bunch. Marty should stick to radio, he really doesn't have a face for TV, and that's putting it mildly.

I think Martin Kieley deserves a chance at a big hurling match, thought he did very well at some of the earlier rounds.

He created a bit of atmosphere and excitement and seems to have a genuine passion for the sport, unlike the others with the possible exception of Brian Carthy and Marty.

I reckon going from TV to radio is something of a promotion.

Its a lot more difficult to communicate to an audience when they cannot see whats happening.

I'm not a huge fan though but he is a lot easier to listen to than the hyper Brian Carthy.

But in fairness Micheal O'Muir was always going to be an impossible act to follow.

    .

It might be more difficult but usually there's less of an audience on radio so it is seen as a demotion

Ah you don't really count it as a draw at the start of the game do you? That seems a little silly to me tbh.
