how cpu heavy is the new photoshop? iv been using cs3 for the last while but it only uses half the available ram and i do like the new autosave feature in cs6. just wondering is it going to be much more intensive on my laptop.thanks

It really depends on what you're doing. If you were using most of the older features I doubt you would see much performance difference but of course nobody upgrades to just use the features they already had ;) The 3D and video editing will tax a lot of machines. The content aware stuff can be taxing depending on how large an area you select. It all very much depends on your laptop though.

I might be of more help if you let me know your laptop specs, processor ram etc as these will be the factors that directly effect its performance.

Also before even considering the upgrade, be sure to download and install the demo from www.adobe.com. All the advice in the world wont compare to just trying it out yourself to see how you get on with it.

thanks for the reply. spec wise its i7, 8gb ram (cs3 could only use a max of 4) and a nvidia geforce 330m graphics card.
I wouldnt be using it much for 3d or anything.

When I had the beta on my computer, it surprisingly didn't feel heavy at all, it was fast, that could mean one thing, that Adobe realised that the previous version were too heavy on the cpu.

CS5 extended is particularly heavy with the 3D repousse tool, isn't that much with CS6. Mainly because with CS5 it was introduced to us, but anything that is new is always going to be heavy on the cpu or gpu (graphic's cpu)
