Make sure all the lights are working, indicators etc and the tyre thread is ok, after that just put it through the test and see what happens.

make sure the seats and boot are empty of items, also if you have hubcaps they must be off and have the car reasonably clean.

here you arrive at the test centre and book in at reception, i had mine last week and they asked everyone for valid photo id and the logbook, so have those with you also.

as with the poster above do those things and make sure there's screenwash etc.

heres a link also you may want to have a look at, good luck.

Any NCT I've done there's been a guy just inside the entrance with a clipboard who will direct you to where to park. He'll tell you to leave the key in the ignition & door unlocked. YOu then go in, present your documents & payment, & wait to be called with good or bad news. In another test centre it was basically the same but I was told to sit in the car until I was told to drive it up to a particualr bay, so there seems to be slightly different procedures, but you'll be told what to do as you go in.

Make sure car is clean inside, outside & underneath. Empty boot & don't have a child's car seat. If your wheel-nuts aren't visible you'll need to have taken off your hubcaps. Don't forget to bring your driver's licence & vehicle registration cert.

    Good luck :)

where are you from! In Cork, you park in the Car Park and take in the keys, all civilised like and they collect it and put it back after, all locked up and bring you back the keys and the good/bad news.

Similar in Ballymun test center (in Dublin, near N2 exit) park car in carpark, go to reception, show your ID, make a payment ( keep receipt as it will have to be shown, when collecting car keys and cert from technician) , leave keys with receptionist. In waiting area, trough window you may see how technician test your car. When he completed his work, in 2 -3 min, you get call to technicians counter, show your payment receipt, and you'll get your cert or fault list explained, where is faults and a car keys. Car is parked in different side of test center (usually at the front of exit test line doors ) .

It's going to the Fonthill centre in Dublin if anyone knows the specifics of there.

My drivers license is a UK one, so presumably the plastic bit is sufficient? Also still waiting on the logbook in the post but I believe the Import Receipt will be ok for this (has the reg etc on it).

was there couple times, make sure you are not late, come at least 10 -15 min earlier, there is car park at the front of test lines, but before you come there, you shall see a guy at the front of entry, he will take your details, stick small sticker on windscreen, and will advise you park at the front of test lines. , after that proceed to reception, pay. think driver license is enough, if you booked test on your own name.
keep receipt , as youll have to show to technician, to collect keys from car.

    A bit off topick:

    yeee : 1000 posts reached :D

Fairly straightforward. Turn left at the entrance drive around the front of the building to the hut. The chap at the hut will put a sticker on your car and direct you to one of the bays. Leave the keys in the ignition and go into reception to pay. I was asked for driving licence and log book when there (about 5 months ago). They will then direct you up stairs to the waiting area. The test takes about 20 minutes - they will call you when its complete. A few tips (most of which were already said)

Check all the lights before you go in.
Close all the seat belts in the back seats (to make sure they work and that none are stuck under the seats)
Clean out the car (empty the boot etc)
Remove any hub caps (if you have them)
Some people say to go for a drive (for about 20 minutes) to warm up the car before the test.

Dont worry if there is a huge queue of cars in front of you, they seem to stick to the appointment schedule fairly strictly - you will not get the test done any quicker by turning up early (unless there are no appointments in front of you)

And most importantly - No sneaking over to Wheelworx during the test!

Re hubcaps, if the wheel nuts aren't covered by them then you don't need to remove.

No need. They won't be taking the wheels off.

Having alloys on my Golf GT I forgot to take the little centre hub covers off a couple of years ago, the NCT tester guy brought my car back (Deansgrange) and said it was a technical fail but only because they couldn't inspect the wheel nuts i.e. everything else was a pass. He said that if I took off the hub caps he would come out in a minute and pass it which is exactly what happened so it's not the end of the world if you forget.
