I never saw it as Basebar but I was in Wilde's the night after its launch and it's quite a nice place. I'm sure I'll go there often enough but it's more expensive than other bars in town.

Nice enough bar alright, prices are a bit OTT in my humble opinion tho. Think it will put off the younger crowd. I was there on a monday.. jazz night thing, not really my cup of tea but would go back to other nights. Although someone mentioned paying in after 10pm duno if thats true, but you'll not catch me paying into any BAR!

I checked it's very snazzy website and it seems there are cover charges after 10pm on the nights they have late openings and different themes every night. I wonder what Saturday nights are like (they seem to be pitching it very much like a Cirque du Soleil type gig that night - while a bit of that would be entertaining, I wouldn't want the whole night just to be about that - do they have DJs/music/dancing at some point after the show?). Either way, any addition to the Dublin gay night scene is welcome!

Checked out Wilde on Saturday night - very impressed with it. It seems to attract a well dressed, classy crowd. Good music too. It got really packed after 11pm with all the Gaga concert crowd arriving. Will definitely be paying more visits!

Course it got packed. It's tiny. Been to the movie nights a couple of times but the drink prices put me off. Going to the student night tomorrow, not very high expectations.

    Define "good music" ?

Well, I suppose it's tiny if you compare to a superpub like Dragon but I actually like a smaller not so sprawling alternative (which is why I like Mother too). It makes it easier to get buzzing on a quieter night too. I'd rather Dublin have a dozen small/mid size gay venues for the choice/variety than 4 soulless giant complexes.

As regards the music, I guess I say good as in I was enjoying the atmosphere and the music complemented it but I suppose it really was just your usual chart/commercial pop/r'n'b (some of which I really like!) - nothing extraordinary. Perhaps it is different on the other nights.

We were drinking pints of Heiniken/Coors and they were 5 euro - fairly standard city centre prices.

I don't get the bitching about Wilde either. I popped in there last Thurs evening to take a look and I thought it was pretty good - it even has a small smoking area which is a plus for me.

Portia, the resident drag queen, is a dote and her show is quite entertaining. The drink prices are standard for a "trendy" Dublin city centre bar - not outrageous - but perhaps they could have more promos for students.

The decor is not bad either.
