Anyone know what this little bugger is ? There are hundreds of them on two young hazel trees in my garden who already have a hard time of it with weather and the site. They have eaten most of the leaves even though I keep shaking them off. Any way to get rid of the greedy beggars?

Looks like sawfly. Keep at it, shake and squash. I believe there are sprays too but havn't used one. Trick is to keep checking healthy plants throughout the summer and catch them when they are tiny. There will be lots but a finite number all the same so perseverance pays off.

I used nematodes on an infestation of saw fly . Worked a charm.
