Driving Test on Thursday!

I have my driving test coming up this Thursday in Portlaoise. I don't have a car and I have only been getting lessons. The 3 round-a-bouts at the church is where I have the most trouble. Just want to know a few things if anybody has done the test in Portlaoise.

What is the tester like? What is he/she strict on? My instructor said one is strict on distance from parked cars.

What questions do they usually ask for the theory part before the driving?

    What is the common Route?

And how do you calm the nerves before the test! ha

    General advice appreciated also.

Thanks i'll try, easier said then done though. Portlaoise is just so awkward as there's three mini roundabouts after each other with pedestrian crosses at the end of each one. It's a pain.

    Where is your test?

Just came across this and want to say a big good luck to both of you :D I also have mine on Thursday so let it be lucky. I am nervous but I am putting in successfully (so far!) to the back of my mind. Its not the end of the world either way so I guess concentrate, be clear and as confident as we can and all will be fine!

you can only do your best as i was told once you have done your 3 point turn or reverse around the corner it is done so if there was any mistakes made, you made cant change them so just contrate on the next task

best of luck with your test were are you doing it

Yeah, watch out for the distance on parked cars. I got x3 grade 2s for that.

I failed in Raheny last week. The theory I was asked was -

    Rules for the box junction.
What do you do if you're dazzled by the lights from an oncoming vehicle?
    Continuous white line.
What does amber mean/what do you do if you're approach lights and it turns amber?
    6 or so road signs.
How do you check your oil and coolant?

    Good luck. :)

Its good to have your own car to practice instead of only doing the lessons. You sound confident so you should pass.

Well there is nothing you can do execpt try your best and as moon said it's not the end of the world if you fail. Just do it again.

There is no specific route in Portlaoise for the test. There are various ways they can take you.
Look out for speed limits, there is a 30km limit up past the train station.
The roundabout outside the test centre is a busy one.
Yield sign and a Stop sign before you exit the test centre.
The road layout has changed coming back towards the test centre from Supermacs direction, so stay in the Left lane ( it was marked for left only before)
There is a very tight left turn with a wall on the left(old mountmellick to the older dunnes stores)

I have mine in Tallaght tomorrow and the nerves are starting to kick in. I don't know the route in Portlaoise but either way if you think of it as two and half manoeuvres (including the hill start which is really pulling away from the path) and the rest is nice calm driving! ;)

The questions the other poster put up are really the questions that are asked 80% of the time. The rest is the driving. The park cars in Tallaght are the only thing I am really concerned about to be honest. I know the route a bit but not greatly but sure its all driving at the end of the day.

No matter where the test is just concentrate and think that this time Friday you could and will have it all behind you and be waiting for that lovely pink licence :D!

l have a lesson tomorrow at 11 my test is about 12.45 two weeks from tomorrow . i guess i am having trouble with the the theory part of it as i have not got a good memory, as soon as i pick up a book i start to fall asleep

but there is no point worring about it now , it would be nice if you could get the instructors car before the test as it would calm you down.

Yea my test is at 14:55 and I have a lesson before hand. I'm the same as you with the theory, I just can't remember half the stuff. Also my concentration sometimes goes when I am driving which is not good!

Best of luck. Let's just hope we don't get a harsh tester!
