Anyone got any advice on making shooting sticks? I got the two canes in woodies yesterday that your man in this video recommended http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqsQjpx87zo would it not be more straight forward to drill the 2 canes and put a bolt through them?

I made mine the same way as this guy. It's simple. The rubber o rings were 25c each in a motor factors.

Trigger Pl I got them in Woodies in Galway, they were the longest ones in the shop and I think I got the last ones! Id say B&Q would probably cheaper and have a better selection!

Just picked up 4 x 1m sticks from B&Q @€;1.80 each and a free old bike inner tube from the cycle menders to hold them together

I'll use them kneeling/sitting as thats the way i prefer to shoot and the sticks are easy to carry

What sort of weight are the sticks you get? ( for standing shots ) We were looking at 2 and 3 leg ones at birr but they all seemed to be fairly heavy for carrying around.. well heavy enough to get sick of carrying.

Made a single stick from a good telescopic cork handled walking stick and the top of a fishing rod rest (can't show you now as I left it in a buddies car last time out).
This bi-pod is made from two garden poles (€5.00 each) .

I am barely 5'7" in socks, you can see how tall they are, (I have all ready wacked off approx 5 inchs from the top).
    [IMG][/img]IMAG0280.jpg
I capped the cut ends with tube caps you can find in any hard whare section, then I used some foam tubeing cut to sizes as handles with some bicycle tire inner tube pushed over it.
    [IMG][/img]IMAG0276.jpg
I was worried about the strength of the sticks after drilling for a bolt hinge so I went for the rubber tube rings. To increase the rubbers strength cut a 2 inch band and fold it over or roll it up the two sticks. I also used another rubber ring pushed over the 'hinge ring' to add tension and give a little more width so allowing for the thickness of the handles.
    [IMG][/img]IMAG0277.jpg
Finally I needed to stop the sticks from opening out when in transit so I used a rubber ring secured to one leg by a band and a cord. The free ring is stretched over the two legs. It is adviseable to twist a couple of rubber rings on the opposite leg at the same hieght. This will keep the legs straight when secured and stop them rattling.

I bought the bolts and nuts with the plastic on them before I saw that video. I got the I rings in a hardware shop and I had the whole job done in 5 min. I recommend the o rings. There not gonna loosen open either

If you go onto youtube and search "diy shooting sticks $4" this guy makes a nice set cheaply and they are fully adjustable from standing to kneeling.
