This is more suited to the instruments forum I think.

The concept is very cool but the 7.25" fretboard radius really kills it for me. I'd go for the 50th Anniversary Jag, in Burgundy Mist Metallic as it has different but equally practical and modern appointments, as well as a flatter fretboard.

7.25" doesn't sound too bad. I've got a guitar that apparently has a 15" fretboard radius but it doesn't feel too fat at all. Could that be down to the back of the neck?

    What do you mean?

A 15" fretboard radius is much flatter than a 7.25" radius, which is what vintage Fenders used to have.

Most people agree that if the fretboard radius is lower - and by that I mean more rounded - then it's harder to bend but perhaps easier to finger chords.

Most shredders will have at least 12" or even compound radii that start lower and become flatter the further up you go. As you play higher up the neck you have less space to bend so a flatter radius is desirable for those who play fast as it requires less force to make bends.

Fender's 'modern' radius is 9.5" which is ok but I definitely prefer the 12" radius on my G&Ls, my SG and my Annie.

A lot of people prefer modern radii but like other vintage-style appointments - custom colours and the like - so it's increasingly common to see hybrids that look like old guitars but have flatter fretboards like the Fender Thin Skin series.

Anything related to the back of the neck would be neck profile, which is different altogether. So you can have flat (radius) but fat (profile) or round but thin :)

Funny thing is that the Johnny Marr Jag is quite modern but leaves the fretboard at 7.25". That must be to do with his personal preference so I suppose it makes it more authentically 'his' in that sense. It's a curious reverse of what you tend to see at Fender these days.

Never mind me, I think my brain just decided to misunderstand what was written before my previous post :o.

Went and bought it... and I love it. It's a very different feel to other Jags with the radius and the unique wiring. Thanks for all the inputs.

    Hi Dermoth,

Can you let me know where you picked it up. I've been mulling over getting one for while. Lovely collection of guitars btw.

That's curious as AVRIs and most MIJ vintage approximations have the same radius as the JM Sig. How does the neck profile compare?

The swtching looks very practical but I love the optimistic 'space age' switching possibilities of regular Jags too!

    Yours looks wonderful.

    Thanks for the comments...
Been lucky over the years to get a few nice ones. Wasn't sure about why it felt so different - certainly the switches and telecaster selector gives a different 'feel' as you play. Body contour is different too - I believe it's a mix between a 63 body with an additional Strat contour. Anyway, it's a lovely piece to look at and play.

    Hi Dermoth,
Can you tell me if you picked yours up in Ireland ? I'm seriously thinking of getting one but was going down the e-bay route. Thanks a mill.

I didn't buy in Ireland. Nor off eBay. Went and bought abroad. Sorry for delay in getting back to you.

Thanks for the reply, I'm going the e-bay route, it's worked for me so far and cheaper.
