    Hey there,

I'm going into Common Entry Science and just wondering does anyone who's already in this course know how much you spent on books and your lab coat/anything else you had to buy?

I probably won't be buying the books, someone already told me there's no need but if anyone has any info at all it'd be much appreciated :D

You don't need the books as such, but you'll need the redeemable codes that come with the books for mastering biology, physics and chemistry, the codes let you do online tests that go towards to your CA. You can just buy the codes online afaik.

The Hodges Figgis bookshop in DCU sell the books in a pack of 3 (excluding the maths calculus book) for over €150 If I remember, not 100% on that. You'll probs be better off getting the codes online and then getting the books second hand, you'll see 2nd years emailing you trying to flog their books away.

I think the lab coat out of spar is €15 quid and the pipette pump €10, I forget the price of the spatula and safety glasses.

    All the best :)

Try buy the books second hand real cheap and buy the codes of the internet. It does help having the books. And all the equipment adds up to being heft enough. I think I spent around 40 euro on the lab coat, goggles, spatula etc.

I highly recommend looking elsewhere for pumps and glasses. The pumps break very easily and the glasses are so uncomfortable that it probably counts as torture. When you're wearing them for 3 hours at a time, you want to be sure they're comfortable.

And the only book you'll really need is the Calculus, you can grab that cheap from a second year probably.
