Useless Computer

    I bought a custom built pc today, with quite a few programmes still installed on it and not all were obtained legally by the previous owner. It seemed to be fine and dandy until it randomly crashed to the "blue screen of death". This happened several times before I managed to keep it running in safe mode and i uninstalled several of these programs to no avail. I attempted scanning the processes a few times using various programs and discovered over 1000 affected processes. I attempted a defrag and disk check, but couldn't complete the defrag. Once the disk check was done the pc still crashed so I reinstalled windows and it seemed to be running fine. However, the original network card had packed in and the owner replaced it with a wireless dongle for internet access, and when I tried to install this dongle I was told that "the device cannot start. (code 10)" I was unable to get any updates for windows or drivers for the device as i had no internet access and the several attempts I made at downloading drivers on other pcs and porting them over were met with little success. I don't know if the drivers need windows updates to install and i have no access to them, but as the case stands, I have a pc that cannot connect to the interent and is showing no foreseeable signs of doing so. The specs of the pc are as follows;

    OS: Windows Vista Ultimate (6.0, Build 6000)
    System Manufacturer: Nvidia
    System Model: AWRDACPI
    Graphics: Nvidia geforce 7900 GTX
    BIOS: )Pheonix 0 Award work station BIOS v6.00PG
    Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor 3800+ (2 CPU's) 2.0Ghz
    Memory: 3070MB RAM
    Direct X10

    I would really appreciate if somebody could help diagnose the problem and help

    Return it and get your money back. If the on-board NIC has packed in, there might be more damage to the motherboard than meets the eye.

    If you don't get your money back, open up the case and find the model number of the motherboard, do a search on google to get the drivers for that board. That should get ethernet working enabling you to update the O/S and the drivers of all attached devices. But as Torqay says, you may have a dud on your hands.

    I'd reinstall the O/S that should do the trick.

    Ok so i eventually got the entire system up and running, it required a lot of software and driver downloads on other desktops and disc transfers. But it is up and running. It still took 2 days to get it to this state but i'm happy enough
