Irish Cambridgeshire Gripe

The name of this race (among others) has always been something a bugbear of mine. Its not a post colonial thing or anti English gripe. I am anything but anti English and far from a rabid republican.

Its just that I find it bordering on the ridiculous that we continue to name some of our races after their English equivilents.

I know many of the races in our pattern are based on original races across the Irish Sea, but surely its time we attatched something of our own identity to them.

Calling a race run in Co Kildare after a county in England simply because their version is run in Cambridgeshire simply makes no sense to me.

Is there a French Cambridgeshire, a German Cambridgeshire, a US Cambridgeshire.........?

The Classics are different as they are international brands in their own right now.

As I said, its just a bugbear of mine. It doesn't keep me up at night and if Learn crosses the line first this afternoon I'll probably care even less.

it would gripe me more that they are not pronounced in Irish.
