Laptop has faulty hard drive - dont have any OS cd's

    My Dell laptop has a knackered hard drive, so I will need to replace the hard drive. But the laptop didnt come with reinstall cds, where can I get a copy of the OS? I was planning to use the product key under the PC. Would Dell provide a copy of the OS, or what other options do I have?
    The laptop is out of warranty, and runs on Windows Vista Home Premium
