Got this notion into my head the last day.Would it be possible for a normal 'Joe' to run around the world?.There doesn't appear to be alot of info on this online. How many people have actually done it?, what's the record, has it been done by an Irish person.29000 odd miles seem absolutely crazy but not impossible. With the right team(small group of runners),the right prep, some sponsorship, some media backing and an ocean of mental strength it could be possible and in the process raise a serious amount of cash for some worthwhile charity or charities.I guess the very basic requirements would be (a) Fit (b) healthy (c) no serious financial commitments (d) single-or at least have an extremely understanding partner/family.Has anybody else ever even considered doing this?.I know i'm not the only crazy person on the island:)!.

Apparently this guy did it first, from 1997-2003

Respect to 'Tony Mangan'.He sure must be crazy!.It an unreal undertaking to try this solo.I may now have to apply for citizenship and try to become the first kenyan to do it instead:).I read about the English guy Garside and it seems there is alot of holes in his claims. It's a fascinating subject. Also read about some guy who was doing a similar expedition in the 70's with his brother who was killed by bandits in Afghanistan.

Rosie Swale-Pope did it as well a few years ago and she wrote a very interesting book about it.
