seeking advice on satellite receiver upgrade

Not sure if this is in the right place as it covers foreign satellite too.

I want to switch to a satellite receiver that has a hdmi connector. My current model is an opticum 4060 cx plus which only has a scart connector.

Through the 4060 cx plus, I get English and French channels from 2 dishes pointing to Astra 28.2 E and Atlantic_3 5w.

I tried the LIDL box currently on sale but couldn’t get it to work. I mean the English channels were fine straight off but I couldn’t get the French ones. This could be because I’m not setting it up correctly or maybe it’s not appropriate for my set up (2 sat dishes and a universal LNB - I saw that it was universal in the opticum 4060 cx plus settings). This quote from the manual seems to rule out the LIDL box

“If you want to use the device with satellite systems capable of receiving more than one satellite, a DISEqC LNB must be used instead of a universal LNB”.

    So my question is.

Am I right in thinking that the LIDL box doesn’t suit my needs?

And can you recommend one that does? It just needs to do what the opticum 4060 cx plus does - but with a hdmi connector.

    Thanks a lot.

Although there are many makes of generic Free To Air boxes. I prefer 1 type of receiver on a multiple lnb system. http://www.technomate.com/categories/Products/Satellite-%26-Terrestrial/Satellite-Receivers/HD/

Which French channels were you receiving?

The Lidl box should be fine for multi-sat. use. If your system uses a DiSEqC switch for automatically selecting the appropriate dish input for whatever channel you have selected, then it might just be a matter of going into the DiSEqC settings menu & assigning the satellite at 5 degrees west to the 2nd switch port.

    The Lidl box will work.

Page 20 of the manual explains it. Leave the LNB as universal. You then need to set each satellite to a Diseqc port. Presumably Astra 28.2 is on port 1, as you said it worked, whatever's on port 1 tends to work regardless. Put 5W on 2. You may need to add this satellite if it's not in the list. Then scan.

Have a look through the menus on your current receiver, it must have the Diseqc settings listed somewhere.

    Thanks for the reply.

France 2,3,5,O,TV5 Monde and a few others.

I don't know if it uses a DiSEqC switch. I will try to find out.

If it works automatically, it is. Manual switches are only needed for the likes of Sky boxes that don't support DiSEqC.

Thanks Ronnie Raygun and Nurs for the fix. I put 5w on port 2 and scanned in the French channels. So the LIDL receiver does the job.
