    Hi everyone,
I was hoping i could get some help on finding a wedding band in the Galway area. We are getting married next April and have just started contacting bands to get availability, costs etc.
We have been quoted prices from 2450-1500. The 2450 is an 8 piece band but with no DJ. The 1500 band im not 100% about.
Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced, good quality band??
    Thanks

I should add that we are planning our wedding from Australia so we are not able to see these bands in person. Having to rely on websites and youtube clips!!

    Hi Crazy,

I don't envy you trying to organise a wedding from the other side of the world, can't be easy.

Anyway, I got married last month, and had a band called Goodfellas.

    http://www.goodfellasband.ie/

They have won wedding band of the year a few times, and let me tell you, they are amazing. I am into music big time myself, and for me the band is so important, and should not be a rushed decision. Everyone will remember if the band are good or not, no matter how the rest of the day went.

These guys are purely just a wedding band, and private function. They don't do gigs in pubs etc. The guys are extremely nice and very professional. The music is very tight and sharp, and you should deffo check them out. They play whatever music the crowd are responding too, but if you have requests, they are very accommodating.

At our wedding we had some people that are into the set dancing, so they played a few sets throughout the night, and also my wife's mother sings, so she got up and did 3 or 4 songs with them. They play as loud or as low as you want them too.

I'm pretty sure they are nation wide, and well worth a look. People are still talking about them from our wedding, and the dance floor was packed all night.

You can also get a DJ through them. I say through them, as its not actually them doing the DJing. To be honest, I would stay away from any band offering to do both, as they will probably just leave one of the band behind with a loptop and a play list. They use a crowd called DJ uplighters, and I can not say enough good about them too. The dance floor was literally full all night, from band to DJ finishing.

The guys set up very quick, and are very discrete. The people at our wedding were saying they did not even notice them setting up, one min there was no band, the next there was! The DJ will also set up at the same time, and there is a seamless crossover from one to the other, again, people were saying they did not even know that the band had stopped and the DJ taken over, goes to show how good the band are.

I can not stress how good these guys were, but I think you should deffo drop them, Mick, an email. He is very prompt at getting back in touch with you, and let me tell you when you speak to him, he will make it all seem very easy, and they make it that easy too.

I wish you all the best, and if there are any other things you are concerned about, ask away, everything is still fresh in my head from our day.

    C

Asides from the fact theyre really good, where did they win wedding band of the year? There's no official or unofficial awards for bands.

Second bog the donkey as well.

You could try Deja Boo, excellent wedding band, seen them doing a few weddings and they are pretty special, they are Dublin based but I've seen them play weddings in Cork and Galway, as far as I know they travel all over the country.

Pyramid in Galway are very good though I have a feeling they might be on the expensive end of the scale.

I wouldn't pay any heed to the "band of the year" things, Weddings Online do awards like that too but since they only include those advertising with them and don't allow negative reviews of their advertisers, they're hardly trustworthy opinions. Many of the better bands don't bother with these sites because their word-of-mouth is good enough to keep them in bookings (and the sites are *expensive* to adverise with.

    .

This. There must be 4-5 sites that have awards. all the awards are based on online voting, every year these come round and get the ol reliable "vote for us on this lads" posts going round. And I do for the craic. Sure why not.

They should rename the awards to "vendor who advertises with us with the most facebook friends".

Anyway, not to take away from the OPs request, just so they're aware when looking on these sites how to take them when theyre being asked to pay a premium based on the fact the vendor has the award.

goodfellas are a damn fine band though.

We've booked the great escape for our wedding next year. They have some songs on there website. I went to see them play a private set in their studio and they sounded exactly like their website. Would recommend them to anyone

We had Gemini 4 at our wedding, and couldn't recommend them highly enough. They played a good mix for the old and the young, and the dancefloor was hopping all night! They're a 4 piece and provide the DJ afterwards too...their rates come in well under the 2000 mark! To be honest their youtube clips don't do them justice at all...they are brill!
