    Hi there,
Looking to buy a car, budget is under 5,000, and I'm gonna buy through a garage as opposed to private.
I'd be driving 20,000 miles a year, looking for something reliable, with a bit of poke, and decent to look at (well I am male too after all lol!). Age wise prob 2003 would be oldest I'd go, but depends on mileage and state of car.
Any thoughts / recommendations please & thank you!?

Better to spend some money on a mechanic for vetting a a private sale car. At that age you won't get much cover warranty wise.

Well the dealer thing was more for my own peace of mind, as I'm not hugely up to speed with the mechanical side of things. But I do know a couple of mechanics so I could bring them along...

So yeah, I'll look at private sales too, so send on your suggestions guys, cheers!

Had a 2001 mondeo, and it was a good car.

If you go private you could get a 05

Some crazy money there being asked for nearly 9 year old diesel cars.

Decent spec 2005 Rover 75 diesel asking €3500:

Anyone have any thoughts on a Peugeot 406 Coupe 2.2 diesel?

What are they like to drive? Reliability etc?

    Cheers!
