no same as that, am ok for fodder but slurry storage is a problem even in a normal year so god knows how it will work out this year if the weather doesnt pick up for Sept

Without wanting to sound too touchy feely but chin up Grecco, don't let it get on top of you, there are better times ahead, these are tough times, keep talking man...

Cattle in now for a week and they are fairly pissed off. There are very few cattle out at the moment anywhere.
I know of a few farmers that have cattle in for five weeks. Others had them out and now back in again.
I'm hoping that if a dry spell comes and lasts for a while the cattle will be out later this year with the grass ahead of them to compensate for this spell.

I have only half the silage I will need and started feeding it yesterday, as has to put all the suckler cows in. Hoping to wean the calves this week and cut back on feed to cows.

15 of my autumn calvers were only out for 6 weeks this summer. They have been eating last year's silage on the slats till now. They are getting out tomorrow to go onto land that I have rented.

    Chin Up Grecco,
I just after bringing the sucklers home from land down near the river shannon. The level of the fields are actually under high tide level. The land drains away through sluice gates when the tides out. I've never seen it as wet and it is normally very dry for the area.
Have to decide now whether to keep them in or not. Tempted to put up a creep gate and let the calves in and out of the yard. The big cows will only go to their knees.

we have 13 in calf heifers & 7 dry cows in for the last 4 weeks . luckily we have bought 70 bales of middle quality silage for 20 euro a bale deliverd and the rest of the cows and calves are out grazing after grass but that is nearly grazed . got the home block of land aerated to try help dry land . we might end up setting up a creep gate out of the slats for the calves to graze re-seeded land but keep the head up thats farming for you . neighbour has his cattle in for last 2 months feeding ****e straw hay silage and nuts now thats bad and his silage ths year is pure ****e were lucky realy alot more people worse off
    sorry for the spiel
