Aldi have changed their Super 6 to Thursday instead of Sunday. In store, they tell me this is to cover the children going back to school, some starting this week. So for the next 2 weeks from 23rd August 2012, all 59c

    Apples (Gala) - 10 pack
    Kiwis - 6 pack
Bananas (Fun Size) - 7 pack
    Pears - 750g (approx 8)
Carrot and parsnip Tray - 500g
    Tomatoes - 6 pack

At Tesco, until 9th September, all 49c

    Oranges - 4 pack
    Tomatoes (Cherry) -
    Leeks - One
    Pepper (Green) - One
    Plums -
    Lemons - 3 pack

Also at Tesco, at 3 for €3

    Bananas - 5 pack
    Pears - Bag
    Apples - Bag
    Kiwi - Bag

There is also a coupon in the in store brochure giving €1 off for every €4 spent on either fruit and vegetables so an additional saving there. We bought lots of oranges earlier this week and used the coupon which brought the per pack price down to 37c.

At Lidl, for one week until 2nd September

    Butternut Squash - Each, 99c
    Apples - 1kg
    Bananas - 7 pack
    Clementines - 1kg

At Supervalu, until 1st September, the 3 for €2 offer, making them 67c each

    Grapes - 300g
    Carrots - 800g
    Turnip - Each
    Mushrooms (Closed Cup) - 250g
    Potatoes (Baby) - 1kg
    Pears - 750g (approx 8)
    Kiwis - 6 pack

At Dunnes Stores until 2nd September, all €1

    Apples - 8 pack
    Oranges - 7 pack
    Pears - 750g (approx 8)
Bananas (Fun Size) - 7 pack

Great competition at the moment with the fruit and veg. No excuses for not getting the 5 a day in. We'll be busy juicing and smoothie making also. Looks like lots of others have the same idea as the fruit was flying off the shelves in my local Aldi earlier today.

Keep an eye out over the weekend for the Lidl and Tesco offers who are sure to compete with the Aldi offer.

Pity the spuds wouldn't come down a bit in price as they have gone through the roof of late. They do actually seem very scarce in many supermarkets

I think there was severe potato blight this year which might explain the scarcity and price hike. Haven't noticed a rise (yet) in the price of potato based goods but I am sure that will come:(

10kg of roosters were 3.99 in Dunnes stores a few weeks ago and are 7.99 now:(. Please post if you know any better price.

I think also that machinery couldn't get into fields to harvest them in many parts of the country, earlier in the year as they were water logged.

Your probably doing good if you get them for that allimac! Their own St.Bernard branded 7.5kg were €2.99 a bag up until a month back and shot up to €6.00 overnight. Granted they are a different variety I think though. I've hunted high all the big chains for reasonably priced potatoes over the past few weeks but to no avail.:(

Supervalu have new Irish queens at .99c a kg at the moment so going to stick with them for a while until see what happens with the bigger quantities.

Have updated the Lidl, Tesco and Supervalu offers.

Supervalu added Kiwis to their offer.

Tesco have changed their normal offers as usual for Monday, but have also added a 3 for €3 offer on fruit aimed at the kids going back to school. No info on quantities as of yet.

Lidl offers have also been updated as usual for Monday. They too have offered fruit aimed at the kids but have not yet advised of their prices.

Will update the above offers when further detail is received.

Surely in this day and age the big supermarkets can import any amount of potatoes cheaply from the continent.
