Hey! I was thinking of commuting from Wexford to Ucd everyday. I was just wondering has anyone else done this and how did they find it?

Did you find it tough getting assignments and stuff done?

How to you manage the commute during the exams?

    Thanks in advance. :)

Friend of mine commutes from Wexford. He gets a bus directly to and from UCD. Don't know how often the bus goes I'm afraid, or the name of it. He always gets his assignments done no problem. Is early mornings but I've never heard him complain much about it. Was always there in plenty of time for exams as well

I wouldn't like to commute from south Wexford, but I think it would be grand from the north part of the county.

It's certainly cheaper to take Wexford bus daily cos they have a scheme that makes it far cheaper than the 18 euro return it usually is, it's only 65 euro for a weekly ticket (60 from Enniscorthy or nearer). They're also quite a lot of buses.

I think Bus Eireann have something too, but Bus Eireann buses take forever. If you're commuting that much I think you deserve Wexford bus. ;)

If you are going Bus Eireann they give out discount cards for 25% off during Freshers' Week (well, they did last year). I know some one from Gorey who used the discount to buy a yearly or quarterly ticket online (or something along those lines). So it's probably cheap enough.

Both companies have wi-fi so it's possible to do your assignments on the bus (provided you don't get travel sick like I do).

You can always take whichever bus into the City Centre during the exams and take a Dublin Bus 4/7/8 from O'Connell St. out to the RDS for your exams.

EDIT: Both buses stop outside UCD! :)

Bring the ould laptop with you and it's the perfect time to do assignments whilst on the bus, almost an advantage to have the forced study time! :D

I'd say it'd be grand commuting to be honest. Lots of people do it. Might get a bit tiresome, but if you get into the routine of travelling around the same times each day and killing time on campus socialising or doing work, it could work out well for you. Routine always helps. :)

I commute from baltinglass west Wicklow, approx 35 miles from Ucd! Whilst it's very tough it's doable
A girl in my class commutes from Gorey!
It's not easy but like everything else, if you want something hard enough you'll make it work

I do a commute from northern Co. Wexford every day and it is quite doable. I do recommend, as others here, that you use the bus - either Wexford Bus or Bus Eireann, you pays your money and takes your choice. I use Wexford Bus as they are cheaper and I find their customer service excellent (if you phone the office, there is usually someone there who can help you), but Bus Eireann is able to run a bit more frequently.

In terms of getting in when the timetable is very tight, the bus is actually a lot better as it uses the bus lanes, with good luck at the lights it's possible to get from the N11 to UCD in about 15-20 minutes, even in the height of the rush, which is completely impossible by car. You also don't have to deal with parking in UCD. If you don't mind it being a long day, and the fact that some of the peak busses can be very crowded (so avoid if at all possible), it's quite doable.
