Was with Aviva for almost 10 years. Got an excessive quote from them for this year. They wanted €750 for the tractor alone. Priced Liberty - they were €50 less than Aviva. Priced FBD and they cam in at just over half the price of Aviva. Their cost for the tractor was €450 for the exact same cover as Aviva.

Price around - it costs nothing other than the cost of the call.

renewal quote today for 5.5k for the house/farm/tractor/jeep/ and couple cars, They might as well pay up on my personal injury cover now as I think Im going to have a stroke. I might as well undo the belt buckle in anticipation

So who besides FBD are worth talking to for the policies mentioned above.

Fkucs sake, must be a hell of a farm or fleet of cars. Or you have a claims history.

Farm 80 acres, farm buildings insurance, tractor insurance, product liability insurance, public liability insurance, house insurance, wifes car insurance €886. Broker. All underwritten by Aviva. Tractor is fire and theft only. Car is full comp. No employers liability included.

F B D i find very good for farm insurance
Aviva i also deal with but they are now closing all there branchs
With f b d the local rep calls out and goes true all options with you

there is a lot to be said for fbd, when it comes to claims, very easy to deal with.
they do their best to help, rather than their best to get out of a claim.

that said and all, there is no harm in getting other quotes to hammer their prices down. their first quote is always a bit off the mark

does any one take out "Personal Accident cover" with them, well worth the peace of mind

There are only three companies completing in the farm insurance market.
FBD who you are with. Aviva and Liberty. I find Aviva best at present however liberty may be targeting bigger farmers

you don't have to pay a wage to need employer insurance, a neighbour helping with a calving is one instance, many other scenarios where public liability wont cover you

don't know about Liberty but one of the reasons I left aviva was they didn't give this cover, also their forestry insurance was a joke

With FBD currently, every year they visit the farm, We go through the policy in detail (or as much as we can) Aviva also quoted for the exact same, values etc, They were trying hard to get in with us . Result is that it give you more power to deal .:D.You will find savings or you you will increase cover at no extra cost. I know some lads insurance is low and some is high , but I bet if it was analaysised it the high lad has alot more items to insurance I know some lads skip tractor insurance, employer insurance, no personal accident insurance, no landlord insurance for residential property and finally some people have insurance renewals coming in the door all year round. This often masks total insurance costs. At the end of the day ,deal hard,do one deal for everything this make you a bulk purchaser. They will hold onto you for dear life. Another thing with Fbd is should you have a claim on a house insurance policy, if you are insured to within 80% of the value of the property they will cover you.Ours is a couple of grand per year but there is alot of property covered, cars, jeep, machinery, comp on tractors, landlord insurance, couple of houses ranging med to high value, stock, sheds ,milk palour, contents of number of sheds, old stone buildings, personal accident cover etc . Our costs per year is very similar to some other farms of similar sizes that we know. You must compare like with like. At least I can rest easy evernight.;)

every company is differennt, luckilly we where with hibernian/aviva a few years ago when we had antibiotics in the milk, they covered my milk and the tanker load, fbd at the time would only cover the tanker load... we went to hibernian as they had a brilliant sales rep, she went on parental leave and we went back to fbd:o

Was with fbd up till three years ago until they jacked up prices so moved to aviva and saved 500 euro.Last year fbd rep came out and beat aviva. Now get 200acres+house+tractor+jeep at 1350 euro employers liability included. Put all on one day renewal so can move anytime as they tried to increase this year again but came back to match other quotes.

all livestock are insured against mortality by fire, lightning, electrocution, storm, slats collapsing, and in while transit

we also have 2 pedigree females insured against all risks

    good luck with your farm.
