Just wondering if anyone has one of these as I'm thinking of getting one this afternoon. I belive Halfords are the cheapest. I just need a basic computer trainer so I don't think or should I go for the 500 instead. Also how does the cashback offer work with Garmin for 30 euro. Do they post you out a cheque or pay into the bank account. Has anyone had success claiming the cashback. The offer expires I belive on Aug 31st.

You might want to check the previous thread comparing the 500 and 200 (and the earlier one linked in that thread) before committing to the 200

I have one, works fine if you just want the basic functions and the ability to upload to Strava or ridewithgps or the likes. It doesn't have a built in altimeter so to get a correct elevation gain figure you'd need to upload to connect.garmim.com where the data from the device gets corrected against their known figures, the process is automatic though and painless.

I bought mine secondhand so no idea of the cashback procedure.

To get the 30 euro cashback if you do not have an old computer (which you need to send in) can you not claim it back from Garmin?

Do the Garmins rattle a lot when going over uneven roads? I encounter a lot of poor roads on my training spins. I heard the Cat Eye Strata are very fragile on bumpy roads and need to be constantly reset

No problems at all with 705s, 500s and an 800 for me

I recently bought a 500 and have noticed the altimeter is poor, maybe it's just my device but on Garmin Connect I normally have to use the corrections to get accurate data.

For what it's worth, I ended up buying a bryton rider 35 with cadence and HR after that thread, that self destructed within 4 months of purchase. I returned that and got a garmin edge 500, as although I had HR on the other one and didn't use it to it's potential, I know I will definitely be looking for that feature over the winter season and moving forward...

It all comes down to what your plans are really, if you plan to progress at all then the edge 500 is a no-brainer...

Garmin Forerunner 410 and heart rate monitor (with apparently most of the features of the edge 500) now only £135 delivered on Amazon. A lot cheaper than the edge 500, can be used for running and swimming but it seems the only downside is that the screen is a lot smaller than the edge. You can get a bike mount for it around £6-10

N problems with the 200 either and I'm in the same area as you billyhead. It even remained intact when I took a spill a while back.

Thanks for all the advice lads. Got a 200 in Halfords on the way home. Now to start using it properly for my training spin tomorrow morn. Can't wait:D
