Have you not been using the internet at all?

if over 10GB has been downloaded / uploaded then there might be some background process on the machine.

Do you have anti-virus and Spybot Search and Destroy on your machine?

A few gigs is nothing for a "new" computer until the OS and all the bloat has been "automatically updated". Dell offers "free online backup" which is scheduled to run automatically by default.

If you watch videos from youtube or any streaming video your download usage will skyrocket. I used have a 250gig limit with UPC and set my router to limit my downloads to a 245 gigs disable limit to prevent going over. I have 2 kids who watch a lot of streaming stuff like More4 and tv comedy over the internet. In the end I had to get an unlimited connection and even an unlimited connection IS limited to 500gigs I think

There is still a lot of 1950s thinking going on with Eircom Telicom......praying for the return of the "Good old" monopoly days when yer phone bill was always something to dread every month. Then Albert Reynolds had to open up to competition. Telecom would be charging per bit or nibble if they could.
