    Need help for the experts.
My lab died a couple of years ago and never had time to get a new dog.
The new season is around the corner so it is obviously too late to get a pup so was thinking of an older dog.
I am going to Donegal next week to see an 8 years old pointer female , she is a good working dog , registered etc... but my concern is will she hunt for me ?
i believe she should have 3 or 4 years left hunting all going well and taking it easy on her .

    Any thoughts or tips ?

i would of never bought an older dog one time but got sick of waiting on pups so now i have a 4 year old cocker dog who looks like he is going to teach ME a thing or two.and he has bonded very fast .last night the girlfriend threw a dummy for him and he brought it back to me .she asked him to HEEL and he stood there looking at her .then shot back and sat beside me. walks and feeding time will be enough for him to know u are his provider and minder and very soon u will build a bond.as for the hunting he should do that himself anyway .i wouldnt personally buy a dog that old but at the same time if he is what u want go for it

Hi i have had a few pointers over the years just wondering why someone would sell a dog that was 8 years old is the dog trained would the seller be a shooting person how is the hips as one of my older bitches need both hips done costly but i had a good few years hunting out of her well worth it the fact see is 8 years old can be a good sign its a hard one to call but it is worth a look as the owner to fire a few shots over her also if you go for a walk in the fields you should get a good idea whats she is like you could ask for a trail i would tbh tough one to call but good luck keep us posted

a friend of a friend of a friend etc... is selling her , genuine reason for the sale.
She is trained and working. The age bothers me a little but if i can get 2 or 3 years out of her that would be great and also enough to bring up a pup in the mean time.
