Mars has faster upload speed than most of Ireland.

    Its the Curiosity rover of course, and its an expensive piece of kit, and the latency is not good; but the upgrade path from the date of touchdown has been very impressive. Starting at tens of bits per second on day one, to dial-up modem speed a few days later; 256 Kbps quite recently, and today its achieving 1 Mbps with 2 Mbps in the pipeline.

    ….a laser transmission system is also in the works, which might achieve rates of 100Mbps or higher. That will no doubt be useful if a manned mission ever heads to Mars. Then, Dr Watkins says, Mars may be more fully covered with high-bandwidth satellites, what with people expecting to be able constantly to stream video of the astronauts at work in high definition.
