I often get a file via email but when I try to play it. I get a message "Media Player Cannot play this File".Why not I wonder? Is there any other Player I can download to play such files?

    Try VLC

Its Free, and can usually play almost anything

VLC is one of the best players out there in my opinion, it might not be the most beautiful looking but it does its job very very well.

We don't know what files they are. They could be document formats, accidentally associated with WMP.

I've seen it all to often, when folks receive a file in a format that has not yet been associated with any program and the usual box pops up, "Which program do you want to use to open the file" and they choose the first one in the list.

Most likely because the file type is not recognised by the player that you are using.

VLC is a good all rounder that plays everything.

Or if you are using iTunes, if you save whatever song it is from your email and import to iTunes, it will try to convert it to a usable format.

What media player are you using, and what are the extensions of the files. The extension is the 3 letters/numbers after the '.' in the filename such as .wav, .mp3, etc
