Not sure which advice to go for

To summarize: I have a molar that is very sensitive to cold and slightly sensitive to pressure, so I do most of my chewing on the other side of my mouth. This issue started around January of this year, and the dentist I went to at the time re-filled the tooth. Her thinking was that the filling may have been cracked. It didn't work...the same issues remained. She didn't take any X-Rays.

Last week I went to another dentist to finally sort out the issue. Why the 9 month gap? Lots of reasons...work/travel/Euro 2012/Olympics etc. Anyway this particular dentist took an X-Ray and decided that a Root Canal should be done......on the basis that the root is in close proximity to the pulp. There is no decay/ abcess etc.

A third (and different) dentist who cleaned my teeth a couple of months back wanted to replace the filling again....and put in a type of filling that would inhibit sensitivity. This would be great if it worked.

Or should I just get the root canal and be done with it?

    Thanks.

i hate to say it but yes root canal - its better to air on the side of caution in these cases if there is an infection setting in or ABOUT to set in better to get it clean it out fully then fill it.its always good to remember to put aside at least a few hundred for your teeth as there are somethings that the medical doesnt cover..

A root canal on a molar will cost alot more than a few hundred I'm afraid.
You are talking at least 1k ,perhaps 1.5k as it will need a Crown too .
    They are not cheap.

Had root canal done a few months ago with a Dentist in Sligo, he charged me 600 euro all in, turns out it was a bigger job than he thought but gave me loads of after care, x ray's etc. Your better getting it done instead of hoping it will come right, they dont. There is nothing worse than tooth ache.
