Living forever (or some extremely extended period)

    Ok so I was just reading the following article;

    ...and although it is as vague as is the usual with anything making dramatic claims, it did get me thinking a little about this stuff.

    What are the physiological barriers to be overcome if one was to attempt to extend their life indefinitely or at least until a point where a choice could be made to end it?

    Do people feel there is an un-passable limit which science will never get the better of?

    If all the physiological issues were put aside and we assumed it could be done, would governments actually allow it to happen given the economic and population impact it would have.

    I met a geriatrician that was absolutely convinced humans had an absolute upper limit of less than 130 years. Do people here agree.

    At the tired old age of 31, I feel like I'd be lucky to make it to 50 sometimes, but I'm feeling philosophical.
