It's registered as either an island vehicle, a tractor, a hearse, a camper van or a forklift. Either way you will probably be liable for the full tax if you can't keep it registered under one of the above categories.

I would be willing to bet you would be legally bound to pay over the full amount, probably over €1600 if it's a 3.2 passenger car.

is that for 3 months, probably taxed as a commerial or taxi or similar. Private tax should be around 1500/yr

Friend of mine had a pajero, taxed as an island vehicle (may well be the same one - 04 G reg - as they sold it last year), was €88 I think before it got upped in the budget. You'll only maintain it if you can provide an offshore address.. (my friend kinda did, even though spent 99% of its time in the Leinster area.

Well I can vouch for it as a decent jeep, it got a new flywheel last year just before they sold it, did a few miles but never worked or farmed.

There was a fancy big powerfull BMW estate car on Donedeal a few months back.

    Full interior.
Tax was dirt cheap as it used to be a hearse, but the seller/owner never did the paperwork to put it back to a private car.

It was a really nice car,but you would be stung on the tax,at a garda checkpoint or at some stage down the road.
