Was thinking of going to Milan in October, know very little about the place apart from the opera and the San Siro. If any one has any views, ideas about Milan I would be greatful.

Milan has a undergound Metro, the stations are indicated by a white 'M' in a red square. The tourist epicentre of Milan is the Piazza Del Duomo square in front of the cathedral (the 'Duomo'), from where you can walk down a fabulous covered shopping arcade to the Pizza Della Scalla. Across the road to the left you'll see the Teatro Alla Scalla, the Italian name for the opera house we call 'La Scala'.

If you're in Milan for a few days, consider doing a day trip by rail to Como, the town at the southern end of Lake Como, you can get a funicular railway up the hill to the east of Como to the village of Brunate and there is a great view of the lake and the town of Como from the top.
