Just got a phone call offering maternity leave cover for most of the year. Thank God.

I have never done maternity leave before as I have always had RPTs.

So I have a few questions for teachers with more experience of it.

How do I work out the salary I will get? Is it the qualified casual rate or the qualified non-casual rate?:

    http://www.asti.ie/pay-and-conditions/pay/salary-scale/salary-scale-for-teachers-appointed-prior-to-january-2011/

Is it possible to get Job Seekers Benefit on Midterm, Christmas etc and how do I go about getting that?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I have covered a few Maternity Leaves over the last few years.

I got the qualified non-casual rate. This page should help you sort out what you will be earning:

    http://www.asti.ie/pay-and-conditions/non-permanent-teachers/what-contract-do-you-have/non-casual-part-time-teacher/

You only get paid for the hours you work, so therefore you do not get paid for the holidays throughout the year. You receive a percentage of holiday pay in your hourly rate.

You probably should go in and sign on for the holidays throughout the year. You may not receive money for holidays during the year but when Summer comes around they will calculate it and see if you are entitled to any social welfare over the Summer.

If you want my advise though SAVE SAVE SAVE during the year for the Summer holidays. You will be receiving a nice pay cheque every fortnight due to the holiday pay so put some away for the Summer.

I was told at the start of Summer that I wasn't entitled to any Social Welfare payments however I got a phone call the other day saying a mistake was made and that I would receive a cheque in the post. I don't think I was entitled to payments every week of the Summer but I definitely was due to claim for some of the weeks over Summer.

PM me if you've any further questions! Well done on the job!

Sorry to hijack but I'm wondering a similar situation. I have 7 hours PRPT and 7 hours maternity cover and wondering how to calculate the wage. Let's say I'm on point 3 so 33,041....is it divide by 735 and multiply by 14????

I am a NQT but have been subbing for two years for the dept so I'm hoping I get on the old scale?? Do I ring up the dept and ask what point I will be starting on??

Am I entitled to allowances? And do NQT get paid for S+S?

Im not sure if it would be 2 different rate for each of the 7 hours, check out the ASTI website or give them a buzz they should be able to answer it for you!

I was subbing for two years unqualified before I did my HDip last year, and I was on point 3 of the old salary scale when I started so I presume you will be the same!

There is a new circular out about allowances/ S&S and it seems to be up in the air. I was onto ASTI and they said they are waiting on the review of this circular which should be out mid September at the latest! Not ideal when school starts next week but I suppose we may just wait and see what happens then!

From what I can gather, since my mat leave is only until January and it will cover less than 150hrs I get the qualified casual rate of 46.85 x 7 = 327.95.

    Then my PRPT will be 33041/735 = 44.95 and x 7 = 314.65

    Total wage is 642.6?????????

    Anyone clarify?

Maternity leave is on a non-casual part-time contract where hours exceed 150 but is less than the length of the full school year.

For maternity leave point on salary scale + allowances / 735 x no. of hours worked

For pro rate part-time the calculations are as follows

    weekly paid

    point on scale + allowances / 52.18 / 22 x no of hours

    Fortnightly paid

    point on scale + allowances / 26.09 / 44 x no of hours

additional hours above the contracted hours will be paid at a rate calculated in the same way as maternity leave example above once qualified.
