Note: thread posted on BMW-Driver.net also.

    Hi All,

My car (2008 E92 325i N53) is just at 109k. I am trying to establish what work needs to be done and then get it done as I ain't no mechanic. redface.gif

From a free summer check BMW think their is play in the steering rack so that needs to be confirmed or not. The car was supposed to have had an oil change around 94k prior to me purchasing. I have no idea on much else; filters, plugs, etc... Had it in with Scullys a few months back for a gearbox leak they said brakes and discs would need to be done next time around. High pressure pump, NOx sensor, air filter housing and ignition coils have all been replaced by BMW under recall/goodwill.

So what is the best approach?

Have a mechanic give it a complete once over and come up with a list? Or what would be the types of things that should be done at this stage? Or is it just a fairly standard ol service? Am I being paranoid? confused.gif

Attached is a price list of what bmwservice.ie shows (I know this is not based on anything, just the easy stuff to price).

    218147.JPG

Appreciate all your advice as I don't want to rely on the computer to much.

    Thanks,
    Eddie

That just looks like a standard service, not based on anything your car actually requires.

Frank Keane BMW are doing a free summer health check of cars, give them a shout:

I used them and they picked up some things I didn't think they would even check, very detailed. Good service when I went ahead with what they recommended.

Had the free summer check done, more interestd in being proactive and not just working off the computer.

We'd be charging less then €250 for everything listed above using OEM parts and correct BMW spec oil, full system diagnostic check, CBS reset, book stamp etc etc.

That's almost €200 less then a dealer and should be the same in most decent independent garages IMO.

Thanks for the info, however that bwmservice website I reckon just provides quotes for stuff thats easy to quote for not based on mileage, recommended maintanence, etc...?

Given the current mileage is there anything you would suggest be done in addition to an oil service?

    Depending on condition :

    Oil
    Oil Filter
    Air Filter
    Spark Plugs
    Fuel Filter

Good in-depth check of brake pads and discs, suspension and associated parts and replace whats required.

    Maybe :
    Air-Con flush and re-gas.
    Gearbox Oil.
If tyres are ok, get them re-balanced and your tracking/alignment done.

What items are showing as due on the CBS menu on your car? Assuming this has been set correctly after previous services it will tell you what normal service items are due and/or when they are next due.

Other then the CBS items it would just be a normal vehicle check i.e, physical check of brake system(never trust a computer to tell you when your pads need changing), tyres, suspension etc etc.

BMW use long life coolant and liftime gear oil so there are no change scheduals for these although some owners will change them at certain intervals for piece of mind.

Thanks, 4 new tyres fitted recently and tracking/alignment done, also gearbox oil was done by Scullys in March as the sump was leaking and needed to be replaced, common issue it seems with the stupid plastic seals. rolleyes.gif
