    Hi,

I'm looking to buy a watch to wear everyday. What I was hoping to buy is a good brand, steel strap, a very basic dial that's white or sliver and automatic movement. My price, 1500 euro.

The things is its harder then you would thing to find a simple watch that's automatic and has a steel strap thats a good brand.

The two watches that stand out for me:
    http://www.omegawatches.com/gents/seamaster/aqua-terra-chronometer/23110422102001

    http://www.longines.com/watches/heritage-collection/L4.795.4.78.2

The Omega is closer to what I'm looking for, the things i dont like about it, would be the numbers on the dial and the arrow on the minute and second hand.

I'm not so keen on the second hand on the longines and also the strap. I'm a fairly sweaty person and I can imagine the strap being ruined quickly if i'm wearing day to day.

But the main thing is the price, of course :)
the longines is closer to the price I was hoping to spend while the Omega is over double.

Any advise would be great! Suggestion of similar style watches?

Also, do any of you know if there are good sales on watches?

    Hi

If you like the Omega, a similar watch but much cheaper is the Longines HydroConquest range.... http://www.longines.com/watches/longines-hydroconquest

Alternatively, something like a Stowa on a Mesh? www.stowa.de but you'll have to wait months for one of these

Finally, you could get an automatic Seiko, imported from Japan from http://www.seiyajapan.com/

    Cheers

Eterna Vaughan? 7630.41.61.1233_0.png or Kontiki? 1220_41_63_0268.png

    Hi,

I'll look into the Hamilton viewmaster, I see there is a white dial version of this.
The strap on the jazzmaster slim is not to my liking.

The Longines HydroConquest range is not something I would consider the multi-dials on its face is what I'm trying to avoid. The SEIKO Ref: SARB035 is more along the lines of what I want.

I know I'm fuzzy but keep the suggestions coming :)

There's a non-chrono version in the range without the dials toward the bottom of the page, there's also the Conquest, again without dials on the face

I think you should look for a previously loved Aqua Terra perhaps the blued hand version.....

there are sales, but only on hard to shift items, so sheerans might have a selection of breitlings on sale but not all of them,

most watches arent ever on sale really, but there are discounts to be had,

decide on what you want first and then see where you can get the best deal,

watchfinder.co.uk can source new watches at decent discounts

Are they not rare enough now, and there seems to be some demand for them? Purely basing that on visits to other forums where there seem to be more 'wanted to buy' than 'for sale' posts for these watches.

    I'd love one:)

I almost bought one of these recently...you should be able to pick one up in Fields for sub €1400
    http://www.tagheuer.com/int-en/home#/int-en-thecollections-menswatches-watches-aquaracer-products-calibre5automaticwatch41-productsheet-wap2011-ba0830

I went for the Link Calibre 6 instead

little bit more expensive but with a bit of bargaining in Fields I got it for sub 2k

I like the look of the Oris above. Are there any stockists of them in Ireland?

Weir & Sons are Oris ADs, not sure if there are any others.

    Again thanks for the suggestions.

This is the problem that I'm having I like aspects of most of the watches suggested but not all of them fully, and considering the price of watches ...

    I did say I'm am fuzzy :)

I like the face and strap of the TagHeuer Calibre 5 but not the case with chucky numbers or angular aspect of it. The strap on the 6 is not as nice and i'm not a huge fan of the second hand.

The Longines Flagship Day Date stap is the main reason I not sure of this one and I'm not sure if the hands are illuminous.

The Hamilton Viewmaster with the Omega strap and the teak-opaline silver dial :)

I suppose I'll have to try and find a shop with all the models and see with what i go with at the time :)

For that price and style Eterna and Longines are your best bet.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Eterna-1948-Grande-Date-Eterna-Matic-Automatic-Chronometer-8425-41-10-0104-/110943256521?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item19d4bbbfc9

Unfortunately the 1948 collection is discontinued but you still can get NIB pieces.

    Or from the current lineup:

    http://www.eterna.ch/en/tangaroa/tangaroa-three-hands

This is my suggestion as the Kontiki was suggested already. IMHO Eterna is one of the most under appreciated maker in the watch industry today, all of their watches are superb, and they are a terrific value for money.

I have decided to go with the Omega. It was outside the original budget but its the style that I like the most. Thanks for all the help and the suggestions, they helped me make the choice.

The only thing now is to decide the size and where to buy it. My wrist might be a bit small for the 42 so I might go with the 39. I'll probably decide this in the shop with help deciding from a friend.

I was in schiphol airport during the week and they are selling it at 700 cheaper then in Weirs. I'm wondering if this is the best place to buy it or is there somewhere better. I will be travelling to Europe, south Africa and Carribean this year and there is always the possibility I will be in the middle east or Hong kong next year. So if any one knows i it would be cheaper any where let me know :)
