    Hi all

Was wondering if anyone knows whether it's possible to get a bus pass for secondary school kids?

In my day we got a big plastic pass which fell apart over the course of the year.

Yes it is. Bus Eireann run the scheme :- they will issue you the big plastic pass, which is valid on both their own and Dublin Bus buses.

However, the BE scheme is currently 350 euros per child per year, up to some limit if you have multiple children.

If your child just needs a Dublin Bus bus, DB do an U16 school child 10 journey ticket for €7 a week, or (€28 a month * 10 months)=€280 for the year. So the Dublin Bus option is at least €70 a year cheaper. Plus BE want payment up front, with the DB option you're obviously just buying by the week, or month as you prefer, which is another point in it's favour for most people.

DB also have a scholar 10 journey ticket for 16-18 year olds.

child (U16) and scholar tickets (16-18) are available as outlined by a previous poster. However be aware that you also need a photograpic ID (supplied by CIE) to make the ticket valid.. My 17 year old was put off bus last year and had his ticket confiscated even though there were 9 trips still left on it..

You could also get a child Leap Card that is valid on bus/tram/train. Separate ID not needed.

The student Leap Card is due out in the next month.
